New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla interacted with the presiding officers of the state legislatures through video conferencing in Parliament House on Wednesday. Birla told the Presiding Officers that the four committees of the Presiding Officers constituted earlier to inquire into the disruption of the Assembly, autonomy of legislatures, the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution and information technology and related matters, did a very good job in finalizing their reports. He was also informed that the legislators of many states have contributed to the Kovid 19 Relief Fund at the Central and State levels. Many states have directly relieved people by transferring funds to bank accounts of beneficiaries. States have taken steps to provide cooked food to the poor and homeless people and have also given them ration items like rice, flour and oil etc.

Apart from this, many presiding officers informed Om Birla about the situation of the trapped workers in many parts of the country. He was also told that a large number of students are stranded in the educational center of Kota, which is also a constituency of Birla. Birla assured the Presiding Officers that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure that all the necessary assistance is given to the stranded students and workers. He requested all the state legislatures to set up a control room for real-time exchange of information between the various state legislatures and the Parliament, making it more effective for legislators and MPs to counter their situation arising out of Kovid 19.
