New Delhi: An FIR has been lodged against Interim Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on a tweet questioning the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency (PM-CARES) fund from the party's official Twitter handle.

According to reports, an FIR against Gandhi has been filed on the basis of a complaint made by KV Praveen, a lawyer in Karnataka's Shivamogga district, against PM Cars Fund's tweet from the party's Twitter handle.

"An FIR has been filed against Sonia Gandhi for tweets against PM CARES FUND under Section 153, 505 (1) (b) of the IPC," a senior police official was quoted as saying by PTI.

In his complaint, KV Praveen has said that the tweet allegedly made has no account of PM CARES FUND and others and is trying to create distrust among the public by spreading "baseless allegations".

However, the Congress central leadership has accused the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of indulging in politics after an FIR was filed against Sonia Gandhi for questioning the PM-CARS fund in Karnataka.

The party also targeted the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh and accused it of doing dirty politics by registering a case against the party's state unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu and arresting him twice on Wednesday.

The party's state unit also handed over a letter in this regard to Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and urged him to withdraw the FIR lodged against Gandhi. It was signed by KPCC chief DK Shivakumar.

The party also urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to review its decision.

"It is extremely unfortunate that at a time when the world is facing a disaster like coronovirus and where crores of people in India have lost their livelihood and are forced to go home, instead of helping them and providing all of you To do "(BJP) wants to do politics. '

"You are not just misusing the government machinery. You are also inciting the politics of retaliation. We strongly condemn it," Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinet told a press conference on Thursday through video conferencing.

Srinet said it was not about the FIR against Sonia Gandhi, "it shows us how the BJP and Modi operate". "Even in times like these, what is important to them is the politics of retaliation. It is a democracy and in democracy the opposition leaders have the basic right to ask questions," he said.

Shrinate said that this was not a question on the state of affairs, but on the PM-CARES fund, where thousands of crores of rupees have been deposited and even so much funds are available that migrants are still forced to move and people Why still suffer.

"Why can't this money be released ... Every Indian wants to ask this question," he said.
